Using The XP Password Reset Feature

Users can set a password for the Windows XP operating system to protect it from any intrusions. This will prevent unauthorized access to your computer and the personal files stored in it. If the log in password of Windows XP is turned on, you will be asked to enter the password to get access to the operating system. It is very likely that you may forget this password. If you have forgotten the log in password, you can make use of the previously created password reset disk. With the help of this disk, you will be able to reset the old password and create a new password for Windows XP.
If you have not created a password reset disk, you may have to reinstall the operating system to gain access to your computer. The Windows online support tips shared below will help you to reset the Windows log on password successfully.

Instructions

  • Turn on the Windows XP computer and wait until the log- on screen appears.
  • There can be many users in one computer. Click on the username that you would like to use. When the Type your password box appears, press Enter or press the right-arrow button.
  • To launch the Password Reset Wizard, click on the Use your password reset disk link.
  • Click on the Next button and insert the password reset disk into the CD drive of your computer. If the password reset disk is a flash drive, plug it into an open USB port.
  • This will take you to the Create new password page. Type in your new password in to the Type a new password box and type in again in the confirmation box to confirm the password.
  • After doing the above steps, type a password hint in the Type a new password hint box. If you forget your password again, Windows will ask you the password hint to recover your password.
  • Click on the Next button followed by the Finish button. This will close the wizard and the XP log on screen will be launched.
  • Enter the new password that you have created just now in the Type your password box and hit the Enter key to log into the Windows XP operating system.

These are the steps to reset the Windows XP log in password. If you are not comfortable following the steps, you may contact Windows online support to get further assistance.
