No Voice Chat Between Xbox 360 And Xbox One

Details on the Xbox One continue to emerge. The latest update on the Xbox One states that the new game console will be able to function without the Kinect attached. This is obviously a change in direction from the earlier policy of Microsoft. The latest information that bubbled forth about communicating with your friends who have logged in from other gaming consoles is a bit disappointing. Marc Whitten, who is the chief Xbox One platform architect, said to IGN as part of the ongoing ‘Ask Microsoft Anything’ panel, that even though friends on Xbox will be able to see each other’s presence on Xbox Live, you will not be able to do voice chat between the Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles.

Microsoft said that this is done due to a variety of technical reasons, which also includes the sound quality. They said that the users would still be able to send and receive text messages on both the consoles. The sound quality aspect that was mentioned by Whitten refers to those improvements that Microsoft has made to improve audio chat in Xbox One. The Xbox 360 headset worked with 16kHz downstream / 8kHz upstream at 14-bit compressed. The headset that is provided with Xbox One streams 24 kHz audio at an uncompressed resolution of 16-bit, both downstream and upstream. This was confirmed after contacting the Microsoft Chat support team.

Microsoft is now all over the place with the Xbox info these days and obviously most of these are not what the users want to hear. The Xbox One console would not be able to support Party chat or cross platform vocal chat with the Xbox 360 console. It seems that Microsoft is trying to push all the Xbox 360 users to upgrade to Xbox One. This is despite the company’s old remarks about remaining dedicated to the old console for years.

As TechRadar mentions, Sony would not have any problems with the cross-console chat between PlayStation 4 and the PS3 predecessor of it. As per Fergal Gara of Sony UK, the users will be able to chat between the two consoles. If you wish to know more on the cross platform compatibility between Xbox One and Xbox 360 or the latest features of the Xbox One console, you can contact the Microsoft Chat support team. They will be able to provide you with more information on this.
