How To Fix Outlook Express Error - Inbox Empty With Low Disk Space

Though Outlook Express is considered a versatile email client application, it too can have glitches and errors. One common error found in Outlook Express is its email folder corruption. Factors like file oversize issues, unexpected shutdown, virus infection, background compaction, etc can result in email folder corruption.

There can be instances where you find your Inbox folder empty when you try to open Outlook Express. It can be shocking to find no email messages in your Outlook Inbox folder. Adding to this havoc, you get an Outlook Express error message that says;

“Folder could not be displayed. Outlook express could not open this folder.
Possible causes are: Low disk space. Low memory”.

You get this error message even when you have sufficient disk space and memory available.

Possible causes

  • If the Outlook Express Inbox.dbx is set to read-only, you will receive such an error message.
  • You might also receive this error message if there is an antivirus program scanning the Outlook Express mail folders.

So what is the solution to this problem? You can easily fix this issue by following some simple troubleshooting steps. Continue reading to know how it is done.

Solution to fix the error

For this, you can locate the file using the Windows file search option (Find or Search) and right-click to select the option Properties. Deselect the checkbox next to the Read-only option and click Apply to save the settings.
  • Next step is to ensure that there is no antivirus software scanning the emails in Outlook Express.
