Configuring Outlook Express To Use With Google Apps

Outlook is a popular email client of Microsoft and can be configured to use with Google apps. Well, given below are some easy tips given by the Outlook Express help team that will help you to configure Outlook Express such that you can use it with Google applications.

  1. In order to get connected to a third party email client like Outlook or Thunderbird or mobile devices, you need to set up a Google hosted password. 
  • The email ID’s password should not be the same as Google hosted password. This means that your email ID’s password should be different from Google hosted password.
  1. The IMAP option should be enabled in your Google apps account. 
  2. Instead of username@gmail.com, the format of your username will be eName@rams.colostate.edu.
  • Type your complete email address whenever asked for a username and password.
Configuring Outlook Express client for working with Gmail
  • IMAP option should be enabled in your Gmail. Once the change is done, do not forget to click the option called Save Changes.
  • Kick start the Microsoft Outlook application in your computer.
  • From there, click the menu called Tools, followed by selecting the option called Accounts.
  • Next, you need to click the option called Add, followed by clicking the option called Mail.
  • In the Display name field, you need to type your name followed by clicking the Next button.
  • Similarly, you need to enter your email address in the field called Email address, followed by clicking the button called Next.
  • Next, from the drop down menu, select the option called IMAP for My incoming mail server is a ______ server.
  • In the Incoming mail server field, you need to type imap.gmail.com and in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server filed, you need to enter smtp.gmail.com.
  • Click the button called Next.
  • In the Account name field, you need to enter your full email address and in the password field, enter your password, followed by clicking the Next button.
  • Select the button called Finish.
  • Under the Account, highlight imap.gmail.com, followed by clicking the option called Properties.
  • Now you need to click the tab called Advanced.
  • Check mark the box that is seen adjacent to This server requires a secure connection (SSL) under Outgoing Mail (SMTP) and type 465 as the port number for Outgoing mail server.
  • Similarly, check  mark the box that is adjacent to This server requires a secure connection (SSL) under the Incoming mail (IMAP) and type 993 as the port number for incoming mail server.
  • Click the tab called Servers, followed by check marking the box that is seen next to My server requires authentication, followed by clicking the OK button.
