How To Access The PST Files If You Forget The Password

Along with being the email application most people know it as, Microsoft Outlook is also used as a personal information manager. It is one of the most widely used email services in the world. There are many advanced features present in it such as calendar, journals, note taking etc, which enable users to schedule their important tasks and schedules. Outlook stores the personal information of the users in specific files known as personal storage tables or .pst files. While creating a new file It is always better to encrypt it with a password. If you are trying to encrypt the password in the folder, you would come across three settings:

No Encryption

This option indicates that you have not encrypted the file.

Compressible Encryption

This is seen as the default setting for the option.

High Encryption settings

The High Encryption setting for Outlook 2003 has the most secured features, and it can be used to set a password.

In some cases, after creating a password, you’d forget it, making it difficult to access the PST files. This is because once you have set a password, the next time you would be asked to enter it before accessing any information. You would not be able to access the emails and all the other items stored without this. Although you can contact Outlook tech support for assistance, you can also use the Advanced Outlook Repair option to fix this issue.

You can try the following instructions to use this option to fix the password issues in Outlook:
  • In the first step, you need to choose the encrypted Outlook PST file as the source PST file, which needs to be repaired. You can also set the output fixed PST file name if you feel it necessary.
  • Now, you can easily fix the encrypted Outlook PST file. The advanced Outlook Repair option would enable you to decrypt the data in the original encrypted PST file. Now, this decrypted data would be moved on to the new fixed PST file.
  • Once the process is finished, you need to open Outlook. This would open the output fixed PST file, and you would be able to access the information without entering the password any more.
These steps would help you to access the Outlook PST files even if you have forgotten your password. For more assistance on the features of Microsoft Outlook, feel free to contact our Outlook tech support.
